Phoebe challenged me to make a hot cross bun smoothie for easter. I tried, but it turned out much more like carrot cake and I loved it, so we brought it out as a special. It’s thick, spiced, indulgent – not words you’d ever expect to be associated with courgette or carrot!

BEST MADE WITH MILK

This adaptogenic protein smoothie tastes like carrot cake batter. It’s sweet, smooth, lightly spiced – we think it’s best shaken with almond milk.

Key Ingredients

Banana
Prebiotic bananas make our plantshakes rich and creamy, and they are full of resistant starch which feeds our gut microbiome and keeps our guts happy. We all know that bananas are high in potassium and magnesium, but did you know they could also make us happier? Bananas contain high levels of tryptophan, which the body converts to serotonin – the happy hormone.

Pea Protein
We love pea protein because it’s made from the yellow split pea, a high-fiber legume that boasts all but one of the essential amino acids. We use a pure, unflavored pea protein with no additives, stabilisers or sweeteners.

Maca
Maca root is an ancient superfood, used for thousands of years by the Incas for improved energy and stamina. Maca root is nutritionally dense with all the essential amino acids to make a complete protein, contains iron which can help reduce tiredness & fatigue, a source of Vitamin B, as well as contain zinc, magnesium, calcium & potassium. And to top it off, it tastes like malted caramel.

Courgette
Courgett is rich in carotenoid antioxidants, promoting eye, cardiovascular, bone, and digestive health. A whole host of goodies in courgettes could support improved vision, such as their high content of vitamin A and vitamin C, providing 40% and 14% of your RDI (per 1 cup), respectively.

Carrot
Carrots are a great source of the antioxidant beta-carotene, which gives carrots their orange colour. Beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A in the body, promoting good vision, and functions in normal growth and improved immune activity.

Cinnamon
This antioxidant superspice has anti-inflammatory effects, which may help lower the risk of disease. Indeed, studies have found that cinnamon can reduce the growth of cancer cells. Studies conducted among individuals with type 2 diabetes have found cinnamon to be associated with a significant decrease in blood levels of glucose (blood sugar), total cholesterol, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides
